Thursday thoughts: Favorite problems
Nobel laureate Richard Feynman kept a list of his 12 favorite problems. These weren’t problems in the negative sense; rather, they were deep questions in search of possible answers.
Whenever he discovered a new fact or scientific finding, he compared it against his 12 favorite problems. Usually, he couldn’t make a connection. But occasionally, he’d achieve a breakthrough by matching two otherwise unrelated thoughts.
So, here are my 12 favorite problems, in no particular order:
How should we advise SMB owners on tax entity types with the upcoming expiration of TCJA and §199A (the “qualified business income deduction”)?
What parts of our firm’s workflows should we attempt to automate?
Should we incorporate AI into our firm’s workflows, and if so, where?
How can we empower our new Client Success Managers (CSMs) so they better serve clients while helping technical workers stay focused on their tasks?
How do we balance compliance and advisory work in a firm serving small business owners?
How should we design financial statements to better help small business owners understand their finances?
How can tax professional associations encourage greater participation among members?
How can I best organize my information, projects, and routines for optimal effectiveness?
How can I better incorporate deep work into my schedule?
How can I best raise my daughter when I’m still growing up myself?
How do I live as physically healthy as possible?
