What I’m Doing Now
As of January 16, 2026
💼 Steadfast Bookkeeping
We’re entering our second year of our tax return preparation calendar. We started using a calendaring system where each client chooses a document review week. If we have everything we need by the end of that week (Friday), then we commit to having the return done within two more weeks. It’s helped even out the workload and has drastically reduced client status request messages.
🎙️ Tax in Action podcast
The 20th episode of the Tax in Action podcast posts soon! Episodes release every other week. Each episode provides one CE hour (50 minutes) on one topic, with practical examples and tips that help you understand how to apply tax law. Let me know if you have a topic you want to hear about! And be sure to subscribe to Earmark CPE to earn CE/CPE!
📖 EA Journal
We’re preparing the Spring 2026 issue of the EA Journal, focusing on corporations and international tax issues.
We’re currently accepting submissions for the Summer issue, which focuses on Ethics. If you want to see your thoughts in print, let me know!
✈️ Travel
I’m returning to Washington, D.C. for a week to attend NAEA’s Capitol Hill Fly-In and Schuldiner/Smollan Leadership Academy. After that, I’ll be at the NAEA Tax Summit in New Orleans. And I’m teaching a 3 CE workshop on S corporations this October at the NYSSEA annual conference.
🎓 Pronto Tax School
I host a weekly one-hour Q&A session and field questions in Pronto Tax School’s online discussion groups. It's great to be part of the development of new tax pros. This is a program I could've benefited from a lot when I was getting started.
🏡 Personal
Last June, I got serious about my weight and fitness. I made some important changes to my eating (counting calories) and exercise routine: running every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday; and strength training every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I ran the Amelia Island Half Marathon and 5k in October. I finished the 5k at a 8:48/mile pace and 5th out of 15 men in my age group. For the half marathon, I came in at a 10:07/mile pace, finishing 15th out of 36 men in my age group. For my first race in over ten years, I was pretty happy with the results! I’ve been sticking to my routine and (mostly) watching intake. The holidays didn’t help much, but the scale has remained steady.
Hey, thanks for reading my Now page! What is a Now page? The idea came from Derek Sivers, and some of my favorite people (such as David Sparks, aka MacSparky) include one in their websites.
